* When Angela vanished under suspicious circumstances November 20, 1998 I was at a loss of what to do. The feeling of helplessness and frustration became overwhelming. To try and comprehend what had taken place I began my own investigation from my home. I began to read media archives about the Downtown Eastside in Vancouver. I began collecting data and made many numerous long distance phone calls trying to find Angela.*

To my shock I learned there were many, many women that had disappeared and continued to vanish from the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. To my horror I found out the Vancouver Police Dept. Missing Person's Unit and other officers were well aware of the vast number of women disppearing from the DTES. I was informed by a VPD officer the walls of his downtown office were thickly covered with photo's of missing women.
I filed Official Police Complaint's with the Police Complaint Commissioners Office and was interviewed by Internal Affairs. My complaints were Summarily Dismissed even though I had ample evidence to prove Police Negligence in regard to Angela's missing persons file. Internal Affairs concluded it was a gray area of confusion between myself and the detective in charge of Angela's case. My complaints are listed below.
It became agonizingly obvious to me that in our great country of Canada we have tiers of social status. The levels appeared to be lowest in the eastside. I foolishly presumed and expected everyone would automatically have an investigation, deserved to be treated with respect and dignity.
Alas this compelled me to create a web site in memory of Angela and all of the Missing Women.
I truly hope Vanished Voices enlightens people to the painful experiences we encountered when our daughter Angela vanished. Including how the system miserably failed us and numerous families suffering in the same situation.
